Outstanding Advertising

October 19, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

I recently bought a WWII style Jacket, by the designer Tre Vero. Besides looking very nice, The design elements in their display. About a week later I felt something in the pocket and found what might be one of the most creative bit of advertising I’ve ever seen.

I pulled out a little piece of folded paper that turned out to be a letter from a soldier to his “Dearest Anna.” What made it even cooler was the fact that I didn’t find it until later.

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are the guys who made Epic Movie, Scary Movie, Date Movie, Disaster Movie and others. They should be beaten to a pulp.

The Best Movie Villains of All Time

August 12, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

10. Agent Smith, Hugo Weaving (The Matrix)

Agent Smith has become well know for his very monotone speech and amazing fighting skills. He also has the ability to take over people’s bodies.

9. Lord Voldemort, Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter)

The ultimate baddie from the Harry Potter series became one of the creepiest looking villains of all time in the film versions. Ralph Fiennes seems to be great at playing the bad guy though (check out his performance in “Shindler’s List”)

8. Hal 9000, voice of Douglas Rain (2001: A Space Odyssey)

Hal preyed on the old fears of computers taking over. The sinister droning voice is unbelievably disquieting to listen to.

7. Norman Bates, Anthony Perkins (Psycho)

Norman Bates is the first psychopath on our list. He is of course know for brutally killing Marion Crane at the Bates Motel in what is arguably the most famous on-screen murder ever.

6. John Doe, Kevin Spacey (Se7en)

We never learn the real name of John Doe, but he is one of the most brutal and decisive killers in movie history. He also has a plan. He wants to send a message through his “work.”

5. Anton Chigurh, Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)

Anton is without question the coldest and cruelest villain on this list. He seems to have no emotions and won’t let anything stop him from doing what he plans to. “Call it.”

4. The Joker, Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight)

Ledger startled everyone with his brilliant portrayal of the the most famous comic book villain ever. The Joker has that wicked quality about him. Even thought he is very evil, you can’t help laughing at his oddball antics.

3. Dr. Hannibal Lecter, Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs)

Hopkins gave one of the most psychological and disturbing performances ever in “The Silence of the Lambs.” If your not convinced he deserves number three on the list, then watch the scene where he escapes.

2. The Wicked Witch of the West, Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard of Oz)

There is not much to say about the Wicked Witch. She is legendary. “I’ll get you my pretty! And your little dog too!”

And the #1 Movie Villain of All Time (according to me)…

Darth Vader, voice of James Earl Jones (Star Wars)

When it comes to villains, you have to be really evil. Darth Vader really is the most famous villain of all time. He will beat you in a fight and he can choke you with the force!

Review of Hot Fuzz

July 17, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

I really thought that this movie would shrink in comparison to Shaun of the Dead, but surprisingly it doesn’t. Hot Fuzz is one of the smartest comedies I have seen in a long time. You laugh at the brutal violence because it is such a brilliant satire of the “cop” genre. Like Shaun, Fuzz utilized the swift and modern cuts and mind-blowing visuals. It is great fun for any action or comedy buff.

Review of Pan’s Labyrinth

July 10, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

Guillermo Del Toro is brilliant! There is nothing else I can say about him. This is a fantasy film that compares with the Lord of the Rings. This is cinematic perfection. Even though it is without question one of the most violent mainstream movies ever made, Pan’s Labyrinth has a certain air about it that makes it haunting and fascinating.

Review of The Happening

July 10, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

M. Night has always been my favorite director. He has the skill to craft a beautiful story, and make it into a moving and sometimes terrifying thriller. While I can’t say that The Happening is as good as The Sixth Sense (which I consider to be one of the greatest thrillers of all time), or even Signs. We love to see things that creep us out, confuse us, and scare us. I had seen most of the violent scenes from the movie in the red-band trailer and it still freaked me out in the movie theatre. The scariest parts were not the shocking bits, they were the intense shots that left everthing to the imagination. Best of all, there was no twist ending, and that officially makes it better than The Village. There were aspects of the film that seemed off. Some parts (like the crazy old woman) were almost irrelevant, and some of the character interaction was just plain odd. But the single thing that troubled me most about this movie was the blatantly-obvious “protect the environment”/”go green” message. I am sick and tired of “green” (the working title should have given me a heads up.) If the movie wasn’t so amazingly intriguing and horrifying, then the little global warming bit at the end would have ruined it for me. I’m sad that everytime I watch it I will have to roll my eyes.

Review of Speed Racer

July 10, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

I was extremely excited to go see Speed Racer. I had always liked the cartoon, and I loved the Matrix. It seemed like it would be great. It almost was. The movie is pure eye-candy, special effects and cheesy lines. All of that is alright, but the problem was the story line. They really didn’t think it out. It is an entertaining movie for kids, and fans of the cartoon. Anyone will feel extremely awkward sitting though it.

Review of The Departed

July 10, 2008 by walterwoodsiv

I just watched this movie for the first time. I guess I figured it would be an OK movie, but nothing more. But I was blown away. This is one of the most amazing crime movies I have ever seen. It flows smoothly and quickly, and is incredibly well written. Although some parts seem odd or out of place, the fabulous acting makes it all work.
